Sharing curated collections with our family of stockists is one of the most important things we do here at NMJ - but perhaps not something we’ve explained in detail before. Our stockists share the same passion, love and commitment not only to our pieces, but in the way they approach their businesses too.
Each season, we show our new collections to our stockists and have a dedicated team of jewellers who then work hard to individually create each piece ordered by hand. These pieces are created in advance to new collection launches to ensure our stockists receive all units at once. Each piece is quality checked by our jeweller Ash, and carefully delivered straight from our hands to theirs – which then make their way to yours.
David Jones has been a long-time supporter of Natalie Marie and we feel very honoured to be a part of their stores. With store footprints throughout Australia, they are able to bring to life our fine collections, in person, with many of our customers and friends.
In the same way many individuals and businesses are supporting one another during this time, big and small, we decided to chat with a Buyer from David Jones, Anastasia Hesketh, about how NMJ works into the David Jones story, her thoughts on our latest collection, and of course we had to ask her what her favourite piece is.
NMJ: We have customers and followers from all over the world. For those of us who may not know, tell us a bit about David Jones.
AH: David Jones is Australia’s leading premium retailer and is the oldest continuously operating department store in the world still trading under its original name, celebrating our 180th anniversary in 2018. NMJ: When you first saw our new collection, Sabel, which was your favourite piece?
AH: I adore the Indigo necklace, it is such a classic and timeless necklace that you can wear as a single or a layering piece. I love the fine chain and arc silhouettes – they complement each other beautifully. I would definitely wear this as my everyday piece!
NMJ: What do you think your customer will love most about it?
AH: The beautiful, unique silhouettes and the simplicity, timeless look and feel. The collection fits well with both the on-trend buys we have considered this season, and the most classic, essential pieces designed to be loved in your wardrobe for a long time. I think that’s one of the most significant things about NMJ and particularly the Sabel collection, the fact that the pieces have a sophisticated edge to design, but maintain its relevance through classic statements and quality materials.
NMJ: If a David Jones customer asked you to explain Natalie Marie Jewellery, how would you describe the brand?
AH: I would explain NMJ as a locally made Australian fine jewellery brand, offering beautiful hand crafted, unique and delicate designs using sustainable practices. The brand offers everything you could need in a piece of jewellery from bespoke designs to precious metals, semi-precious stones and recycled materials to both statement and classic looks. You can tell that every piece has been designed with great passion and careful consideration, one of the main reasons we love NMJ here at David Jones.
NMJ: What are you most looking forward to seeing in the jewellery category for the year to come?
AH: Investment pieces, jewellery that customers can invest in and will be able to wear for a long time. Pieces that are different but can be worn every day and don’t date – totally timeless.
