Anam Cara | Danielle & Nicole

As identical twins, business partners and mothers navigating parenthood, the connection Danielle and Nicole share is undoubtedly bound by love, trust and emotional shelter. A deep bond which holds them steadily amidst the up and down of everyday life.

In developing our Anam Cara collection we stumbled upon the phrase “souls don’t meet by accident”. We can each recognise someone who fills this role in our lives. Whether it is a friend, partner or family, this collection is to signify these special relationships with particular focus on those soul connections we often overlook, those bonds that exist outside of traditional celebrations of love.

On this journal addition, we talk to Danielle and Nicole about their lifelong bond, and their understanding of the concept of soul mates.

'Anam Cara' translates to 'soul friend'. How would you describe your relationship and how does this term resonate with you both?

Our relationship is undoubtedly close. We often say you can’t really understand an identical twin relationship unless you’re a twin yourself. We finish each others sentences, we can almost read each others minds. They say soul friends are those who will be part of your life indefinitely, regardless of where your journey takes you.

Danielle, what is it about Nicole that you are most grateful for?

I’m grateful for her presence, no matter what’s going on in her life she will drop everything to help me and be there for me. I’m grateful to know I’ll always have her there for me. She just “gets” me.

Can you tell us about your fondest memories or shared experiences that have shaped and strengthened the deep connection you have today?

We’ve shared many highs and lows. From travelling together to studying together, but our stand out would have to be when we both found out we were pregnant at the same time. Having a blog, sharing the same interests and working with each other has definitely kept our bond strong.

"Everyone has a friend in every stage of their life. Only lucky ones have the same friend in all stages of life."

As you embarked on the journey of motherhood at similar stages, how did this shift influence your bond?

I think it’s really brought out sides of us both that we hadn’t seen before. A really nurturing and patient side, yet also an explosive side (dealing with toddlers). We relate to each other on a deeper level as we have both shared similar experiences in motherhood.

To you, what makes your bond unbreakable?

It’s a bond that doesn’t waver no matter what’s thrown at us. Even when we’d fight growing up, moments later it was forgotten about. We could never stay angry at one another. Everyone has a friend in every stage of their life. Only lucky ones have the same friend in all stages of life.

Nicole, tell us how motherhood has deepened or changed your relationship with Danielle.

Danielle has taught me a lot since becoming a mother. Motherhood is challenging, but so beautiful. We found it gave us a stronger and newfound respect for one another.

Anam Cara

Our Anam Cara collection heroes the Love Knot motif. Formed with a continuous piece of metal with no definitive start or end, it serves as an ode to our soul friends: those who occupy the most sacred and special parts of our lives.
