Sustainability

At NMJ, we take great care to ensure that all of pieces are produced with a focus on sustainability and ethical practise. Producing all of our pieces in house gives us complete control over the entire process, from sourcing and production to setting, finishing and packaging.

Materials

We use a combination of recycled and new materials, depending on the requirements and supply. We recycle all of our studio scrap and excess for reuse, and purchase a large portion of our materials, specifically sterling silver via our local supplier who deals solely with recycled material.

Any new gold that we use across all of our pieces is verified as 100% pure Australian gold. We are guaranteed this as we use a single source which refines and manufactures solely Australian gold. We are proud to consistently provide quality and consistency in this sense, along with a guarantee of sustainable and ethical mining and refining practise in line with our brand ethos.

Diamonds

All diamonds we source are GIA certified, and are sourced only on the guarantee that they have been sourced and cut in line with UN regulated guidelines regarding ethical and sustainable practise.

Coloured Gemstones

We source our coloured, semi precious stones (black spinel, rutilated quartz, garnet, citrine etc) from our trusted supplier in the USA. The reason we work with this particular supplier is because he runs a small family business which works within strict ethical and sustainability guidelines, which are in line with our brand ethos. Working with only 2 family run mines, he visits each of the mines several times a year to maintain a close relationship, check conditions and quality and ensure the miners are being paid directly, fairly and well. By working with the mines directly, more value is directed to the miners themselves, rather than filtered through brokers, ensuring that miners are being paid fair value for their goods and work. Our same supplier organises the cutting, via a single family run fourth generation gemstone cutter, with whom we share the same strict ethical practise guidelines and values. By working with someone who has complete control of the whole process, in such a personal way, we have complete understanding and transparency around how our gemstones are sourced and cut.

We source many of our precious stones, such as sapphires, opals and emeralds - locally, through our highly regarded network of local gemstone suppliers.
