NMJ Lovers | Jamie and Zac

For this chapter of NMJ Lovers, we step into Jamie and Zac’s story. One that feels written in the quiet in-betweens, long before any defining moment.

They first met in high school, opposites in many ways, yet always orbiting one another. What began as a chance crossing in a small country town became something that unfolded over years. Shaped by timing, distance, and the feeling that somehow, they would have found each other regardless. As Jamie reflects, theirs is a love that feels like a series of sliding doors moments, where every path, every choice, led them back to one another.

Growing up side by side, they’ve witnessed countless versions of each other. Allowing space to evolve, while holding onto something constant. Because for them, love has never been tied to a single milestone. It has remained steady, raw, and deeply familiar.

A connection that feels less like something they found, and more like something that was always meant to be.

Let’s go back to the beginning, how did you meet?

We met in high school, though we were complete opposites. Zac was, and still is, the epitome of life, while I felt almost drowned by it. I had just started a new school, and that’s where I met him. As the years went on, we stayed in each other’s orbit. Meeting Zac feels like a sliding doors moment, “what if we hadn’t moved to this small country town all those years ago”, “what if I hadn’t started that school”. It’s felt like we were meant to find each other, it’s always felt that way and I feel as though we would have found each other somehow, somewhere if not in high school.

In what ways do you feel your relationship has changed or grown, and in what ways has it remained the same?

We’ve grown together, we’ve become many different versions of ourselves and witnessed different versions of each other over the past decade and a half. When you start dating as teenagers, you are still figuring out who you are, and as cliché as it sounds, finding yourself. You need to allow space for each other to evolve. Our love has remained constant though, it still feels as raw and beautiful as it did all those years ago.

Jamie, what was your reaction when you saw your engagement ring for the first time?

The depth. It reminds me of us, I am the darker exterior, and Zac is the sparks of blue that shine from the sapphire as the light hits it. It’s us, as one.

Beyond the physical aesthetics, can you delve into the sentimental value your NMJ pieces hold for you? Are there particular moments or memories attached to them that stand out?

Besides my engagement ring, Zac and I both have NMJ wedding bands. Both of them are so timeless, which represents our love. I actually also have an NMJ piece with a sapphire, Zac’s birthstone, so in a way all of it is connected.

What is something that has surprised you about marriage – perhaps a misconception proven wrong, or an assumption proven right?

That it changes, it feels different. It feels as it always did. Perhaps that is the reason we decided to elope, our love has always just felt like it’s been apart of us. In a way, it’s more official to the world but for us it still feel like the two kids who met each other on the basketball courts in year 7 and 8.

What is one of your favourite moments from your special day?

We eloped in torrential rain, similar to our engagement and again to our hike in the Snowy Mountains this year, as though the rain is following. I’ll always remember is how it didn’t change anything. We stood underneath the courthouse steps, sheltered from the rain, and afterwards danced around in it as it soaked us. Afterwards, we retreated to the pub, where there was a blackout. None of it changed anything, and in a sense, it’s deeply representative of us.
