NMJ Lovers

NMJ Lovers | Kate & Josh

After months of chance encounters, Josh gathered the courage to ask Kate on their first date. From there the connection they shared grew into an undeniable bond. From romantic weekend getaways to weathering the challenges of a pandemic, their love and commitment to one another only strengthened, leading to a heartfelt proposal at sunset. Join us as they reflect on their love story, from the way they decided on their NMJ talismans to their breathtaking winter wedding held in the heart of Sydney.

Let’s take it back to the beginning, tell us about the first time you crossed paths.

Josh and I met through mutual friends at a birthday BBQ. After about 6 months of running in to each other at different events, Josh finally worked up the courage to ask me out on a date!

Was there a moment when you realised you were in love and going to commit to a life with Josh?

Josh and I travelled down south for a weekend getaway after about 6 months of dating. I knew I was in love with him, when he happily sang along with me to musical theatre songs on the car ride down. After we survived the pandemic together, I knew we were committed to spending our lives together.

Tell us about your proposal moment! What do you remember most?

After coming home from a pre-booked nail appointment, Josh asked if I wanted to go for a walk at 6pm, in the dark, in the middle of winter. He was NOT dressed in active wear. Feeling like something was going on, I quickly changed and we headed off for a “walk”. We stopped at a lookout at Dee Why Headland, just us, and he proposed minutes before the sun went down. We then went to dinner at the Botanist in Kirribilli, where we made our relationship “official” 5 years prior.

"For us love is about sharing all of the best parts of life together and celebrating everything about each other. Knowing that you've always got someone who's in your corner.."

Josh, we’d love to know how you chose the perfect engagement ring for Kate?

About a year before the proposal, I had Kate send me some inspiration pieces. This is on top of her dropping hints in the years before about particular things she loved (Oval Diamond, Hidden Halo!). I wanted to keep this as much of a surprise as possible, so I relied a lot on the team at NMJ, and had to 'borrow' an old ring of Kate's for the sizing. From there, it was a team effort, where Zin (Bespoke Consultant, NMJ) and I worked through a few options and landed on something that I knew she'd love. I needed one of Kate's closest friends to make sure I wasn't too far off the mark, and then we were right into production!! She always said she wanted a white gold engagement ring, but I’m more of a yellow gold fan so took the risk, and luckily she loved it.

You tied the knot earlier this year in a beautiful ceremony held in the heart of Sydney, tell us about your special day!

We got married at St Mark’s Church in Drummoyne. It was really special and important for us as it was where Josh’s parents were married 34 years before. Our reception that followed was at Pier One overlooking Sydney Harbour. We had the most beautiful day and were so lucky that the winter weather held out for us. We always took the advice “the wedding day is the best day of your life” with a grain of salt. However, after our day, we truly do believe it. We had the most magical day with our most loved friends and family, and wish we could re-live it.

Kate, you designed one of our most-loved bespoke wedding bands alongside Dan. Can you share how you chose this design and how you found the bespoke process?

The bespoke process was so much fun! I wasn’t too sure what I was after, but knew I wanted something quite classic with a twist. The team at NMJ were incredibly knowledgeable and the entire process was seamless. We settled on a slanted oval diamond band. It really is so beautiful and matches my engagement ring perfectly.

What do you love most about your life together now as newlyweds!

All the same things that we loved before; our morning coffees together, trips to the gym, and evenings chilling together at home. Some things are very much the same, but it has an extra special touch to it now!

What does this next chapter in life hold for you both?

Savouring each and every day, packing in a few holidays and hopefully starting a little family of our own.

At the heart of everything we do here at NMJ is love. Tough question, but tell us, what do you know about love?

Very tough question! But for us love is about sharing all of the best parts of life together and celebrating everything about each other. Knowing that you've always got someone who's in your corner and cheering you on makes each day pretty special.
