NMJ Lovers | Jessie & Hamish

A journey filled with love and heartfelt moments. For Jessie and Hamish their love began on New Year’s Eve, sharing a New Year’s kiss and becoming inseparable from this moment. Echoing a cherished memory for his parents, Hamish chose to propose to Jessie on a boat owned by his family, just as his father had proposed to his mother years ago.

We chatted with Jessie and Hamish as they recalled their special day; filled with love, laughter and many margaritas.

So much of what we do at NMJ is centred around love, where did it all begin for you both?

It all began in Forster at a New Year's Eve party. Where we shared a New Year's kiss before we even knew each other's names. But from that moment we were inseparable. And turned out we both lived a suburb away from each other on the Northern Beaches.

Your proposal held such a beautiful sentiment, taking place on a sailing boat! Tell us more about this special moment.

The boat idea actually came from Hamish's dad. He proposed to Hamish's mum the same way and on the same boat! The boat is very sentimental to the family, as it belonged to Hamish's Dad and best friend, who still own the boat today. It truly was a multilayered surprise. As Hamish had to tell some family members what was going on and keep some in the dark, which wasn't easy. Plus, making sure I got on the boat that day. We were lucky because it had been raining non-stop all week, but thankfully the sun came out when we needed it to.

Hamish, we’d love to know why you chose NMJ to help create the perfect engagement ring for Jessie. How was your experience and how did you end up with the design that you did?

Luckily for me, Jessie had dropped a few hints on the rings she liked, I connected the dots and realised they were all from NMJ.

From the first time I spoke with your team, all the way through to getting the piece, I had an amazing experience. I had zero clue about rings and diamonds, so I was guided through every step of the process. From designing the band, to hand-picking the diamond with the bespoke team, all to fit my budget. My favourite moment was once I had chosen the diamond, I came into the store to see the ring. It came out on a little red pillow and I had never seen anything as shiny as that in my life. That's when everything became real!

Where and when did you get married - tell us a little about your day?

We got married at Bendooley Estate in the Southern Highlands on the 6th of October 2023. The day was everything we had hoped for and more. The year of planning, stress and questioning if we should have just eloped certainly paid off. Our day was full of love, laughter, happiness and many margaritas. The backdrop of the beautiful countryside, open fireplace, live band, delicious food and a whole lot of love made for a magical day.

What was the highlight?

The highlight was seeing each other for the first time, but also looking around the room throughout the whole day and night, seeing all of our friends and family having the time of their lives. And literally, every single person had a dance.

What do you love most about your life together today?

We love that we can have fun together, no matter what we're doing. Whether it's a quiet weekend at home with our dog Peppa, going out for dinner, travelling or competing at CrossFit against one another, we're always having fun.

Love really trumps all. It's above anything material. It really is the most secure feeling.
