NMJ Lovers | Jordy and Tom

For this chapter of NMJ Lovers, we step into Jordy and Tom’s story. One shaped by growing up together, embracing change side by side, and finding comfort in the life they’ve built along the way.

They first met at a party in their late teens, encouraged there by a mutual friend with a clear intention in mind. Between late-night conversation and a shared box of KFC, something effortless began.

What followed was years of growing together through new cities, shifting seasons of life, evolving careers, and changing friendships. Through it all, their relationship remained grounded in something steady. A deep sense of loyalty, partnership, and choosing one another at every stage.

A love story rooted in growth, familiarity, and the beauty of building a life together.

“We are lucky in that the ways we have changed and grown only brought us closer.”

Let’s go back to the beginning, how did you meet?

We met when I was 19 and he was 21, it was at a party that our mutual friend made me go to (with the purpose of meeting him). We chatted, I bought him KFC, and the rest is history!

In what ways do you feel your relationship has changed or grown, and in what ways has it remained the same?

Having met quite young, we have both grown and changed in many ways through different phases of our lives. We moved interstate together in the beginning stages of our relationship which forced us both to push our comfort zones in ways we hadn’t before. We have been through different careers and friendship groups together. Each of these leave a mark and change. However, we’ve both stayed true to ourselves and each other. We are lucky in that the ways we have changed and grown only bought us closer.

Jordy, what was your reaction when you saw your engagement ring for the first time?

I loved (and still love) it! I’d been sending Tom Natalie Marie rings for a few months, but I knew that this sapphire stood out to us both as a favourite. It’s unique, beautiful, and my birthstone.

Beyond the physical aesthetics, can you delve into the sentimental value your NMJ pieces hold for you? Are there particular moments or memories attached to them that stand out?

A memory that stands out is going to the NMJ store for a day trip (it was a few hours away from us) to try on wedding bands. We had our dogs who were lucky enough to come too! The excitement of finding bands that stood out to us, exploring somewhere new, going to the beach. It was a day that makes my ring feel so personal and special.

“Marriage didn’t change who we were together — it simply reinforced that we are a team.”

What is something that has surprised you about marriage – perhaps a misconception proven wrong, or an assumption proven right?

The assumption that marriage helps you feel even closer and reinforces that you are a team was proven right. There may be the notion that marriage changes things, however, we had been together for several years and through many seasons already, so marriage did not change anything other than connecting us even more.

What is one of your favourite moments from your special day?

Untraditional, but spending a slow morning together before parting ways to get ready for our ceremony. It only built up the excitement and love we have for each other even more, reinforcing the life we want to live together and appreciating the small things.
